Dell sucks
I have a Dell Latitude 120L, which I’m hiring from my school (1000 SEK every year, in three years, after that I can keep it). I’ve formatted it twice, the first time to get rid of all unnecessary software included from Dell, the second time, just to get rid of crap I installed myself and couldn’t find.
The first time I formatted it I used the included CD to install all required drivers, and everything worked as it should.
The second time though, I couldn’t find that CD, so I downloaded all the drivers from Dell’s website. It was easy to find them, just searched and got the right results directly.
The problem is that it isn’t the same drivers. First of all, I didn’t get all the drivers. I still have some unknown video devices, which I think is the reason why I sometimes get bluescreens while playing Half Life 2.
I also got the wrong drivers for my audiocard. The drivers are actually for the right model, but I think the audiocard in the 120L is a bit special, which requires the drivers from the CD. This makes the sound a bit “hacky” and the microphone unusable.
I guess I have to borrow a CD from a friend and format my computer again, just to get it “clean”.
