When you reblog text you’re reblogging something that someone else has written. Essentially, you’re reproducing someone else’s content. Does that sound familiar? Bloggers have been getting angry about it forever. In the world of the standard blog, it’s very much a faux-pas to reproduce someone else’s content (attributed or not), but for some reason, this principle doesn’t seem to be applied to the domain of the tumblelog (yet).

I really hope that Tumblr will get better auto-formatting on reblogs in the future. Not just on text, there should be a Source-box for conversations and so on too.

I guess it can also be easy, if you’re a new Tumblr-user with a tumblelog-rush, to forget that some, or most, of your readers ain’t Tumblr-users themselves, so they can’t find the source in the Dashboard.
