Macs now “need” antivirus
Oh noes, Apple encourages people to use antivirus software on their Macs to make it more difficult for virus programmers to infect your computer.
So now the super-secure OS X suddenly isn’t that secure?
Well, OS X is still secure and the need of an antivirus software is still very small. In fact, Apple have documentation about anti-virus software since March 2002, for OS 9, so it’s not something new.
Also, it’s just a recommendation. You don’t “need” it, you’re just even more secure with it. Maybe you’ve heard about the Myth of the nines? This is basically the same thing, instead of using an OS that’s maybe 99,9% secure from viruses, you can if you want to use the same OS with an anti-virus and be 99,999% secure from viruses.
